The fight for independence

by Independence Forever   Feb 23, 2007

While many today celebrate with fireworks and grills
the ragged continental army practiced their fighting drills

while we watch parades, pass us by
our countrymen aplenty did suffer and die

but what did they fight for?
what was in their heart's core?

independence, not just a word, and not just an ideal
they wanted us to be free, which was for them unreal

independence is a way of life
a way of leaving tyrannical strife

the spirit of July 4th 1776 does not have to go out
we can bring it to every war, and every spiritual bout

For such a patriotic piece, it was good . When I read people trying to write poems about this kind of topic, they can`t work it, but you did a good job with it . If only other people could see it this way .
