Angel Loved the Devil

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Mar 4, 2008

With a smile so perfect, she hung up the phone,
Readjusted her rippled shirt and with a sigh,
She looked over to her three kids, nearly full grown,
Turning away quickly as a tear welled in her eye.

Each of them looked to her in wonder, but none spoke,
Afraid that they might hear something they`d rather not,
So they waited, instead, to see if she had broke,
But silence is all that the fading time had brought.

Each kid took two and two to build a story of their own,
Believed what they wanted as silence filled their house,
But as the years went by, with long nights spent alone,
She did her best to forget the man she claimed a spouse.

Watching her little girls fight through heartache, she cried,
Remembering a time when she was left to fix her broken heart,
And as she spoke, she let go of what she had held inside,
Stumbling over her words as she ripped her own story apart.

"When an angel loved the devil, her wings were torn to shreds,
And to this day, that angel still refuses to forget what she learnt,
Because without the lessons, she never would have gotten ahead,
She never would have made it across all the bridges she burnt."
