I lay here with you until our final goodbye

I lay here with you until our final goodbye

Sadness comes upon me on this final day
As you lay here in my arms, too much left to say
Oh God, how I love you, don't leave me this way
What miserable life, will I lead from today?

I was twenty one and you were twenty three, the day that we wed
We promised until death, never really thought, about what we said
Always thought I'd be first, for the life that I have led
Oh lord how this hurts, it should be me lying in that bed

A chill wind blows my love, today our lives will change
When you're gone my love, life will seem so strange
I'll lay here with you until our final goodbye
I'll hold you close and tight, can't help it if I cry

Do you remember the forest walk we took last spring?
Ah yes by that smile I see you are remembering
Sweetheart, honey, oh God please no, she looks so alive
Don't know if I can bear the pain, so I brought my loaded .45

You touched me with this, deeply. Wonderfully written and very emotional. To love to this degree is a dream. I know that you live that kind of love everyday with your precious wife.

    Grant,

I love the way you tell this tale, starting off with horrific realisation, knowing that a lifetime of grief and lonliess awaits.

You then briefly describe a beautiful relationship.

The majority of this poem is about how the grief of a lost lifemate consumes a person, ultimately driven him to contemplate suicide.

I guess there were any number of ways to approach this subject and this is certainly one of them, concentrating on his grief..so very sad.

    well done.

    Michael
