Fight

by Ed or Ian Henderson   Dec 24, 2008

I will fight alongside you, son,
I will fight to protect your mother
But until the day the invaders close,
I will fight no other.
This world we've made is from death and hate,
And that shall not be your fate.
So stand tall for peace now, brother.
I will fight no other.

I'll fight for our survival, child,
I will fight before they reach our door.
Our spirit will turn the invaders back,
Until our spirit is no more.
The land is ours, it calls us back,
To defend, not to attack.
With vigour guard her light and shore,
Until our spirit is no more.

I'll fight for you, my parents dear,
With arms heroes past were without.
Intentions pure, and truth at hand,
For the Life that God sets out.
So forgive me then, this market crowd,
And their deaths our way's allowed.
Does each generation fight its bout,
For the life that God sets out?

"Does each generation fight its bout,
For the life that God sets out?"

That is a really good question. Is destiny really pre-determined? It's usually something people do not want to think is true. It's always shoved down our throats in religion, and is something that goes against human nature. So what do we do? We fight! And sometimes not with fists, but with our spirit and our faith in ourselves and one another. Very cool poem. I love poetry that makes me think.

This is a great poem, with some very raw, strong emotions and a very good format and rhyme scheme.

Some of the images created, like the 'spirit' and the family, are very strong and help the reader understand the reasons behind why these choices are made.

5/5 for this, as I felt that I was there, right inside the poem. I can't offer you any constructive criticsm as in my eyes it was perfect.

    Keep writing,
    Em :)
