Winter Serenade ( Sonnet)

by Ingrid   Feb 7, 2009

Winter Serenade ( Sonnet)

Bare branches wearing coats of virgin snow
Wise animals hibernating in holes
Blanket covers land with mystical glow
With iron hand winter reigns and controls

Lovers skating upon a frozen lake
Azure sky reflected in glistening eyes
Little stand selling hot cocoa and cake
See the snow men that little children make!

The winter sky at night, stars shining bright
Breathing in the clean and crisp frozen air
Magical landscape touched by clear moonlight
A midnight walk, both lost in silent prayer

Icicles, snowflakes, ice flowers and cold
Enchanting our hearts too heavy to hold

"Bare branches wearing coats of virgin snow

^^ from these lines itself I could feel the coolness of winter ... the blanket of snow covering everything around... the pure white scenari ...winter really seems to control ...

"Lovers skating upon a frozen lake
Azure sky reflected in glistening eyes
Little stand selling hot cocoa and cake
See the snow men that little children make!"

^^ there's so much love and innocence in these lines ... the warmth of love and hot cocoa ... the clear sky ... beautiful imagery...

I barely read English Sonnets..I don't know why they aren't common here..even though I truly like them.
I love this piece, beautiful Ingrid..your poems are so passionate and touchy.

The winter sky at night, stars shining bright
Breathing in the clean and crisp frozen air
Magical landscape touched by clear moonlight
A midnight walk, both lost in silent prayer

Loved this stanza..I could see the portray right before my eyes.
I have a tiny comment...I don't know but I don't like the exclamation in the last line of the second stanza..Or maybe I just didn't feel it the same way you wrote it..I'm just saying :]

    Write on love

Your poem made me want to see snow even more than i already did! I am so jealous of this scene.. its beautiful. I have never seen snow.
Such a stunning nature poem, great imagery that had me picturing the most amazing things. The flow, the rhyme and everything was just really put together well. Lovely!

Now, i think you should send me some snow :]

A beatutiful sonnet to say the least. Winter is a very gorgeous season, youve really put the entire picture of winter into this short poem. Well done, this is such a cute poem about nature. You did a great job with all your descriptions, very vivid images.

A beautiful serenade to winter. If only this serenade would last and not have winter turn to dirty grey snow. 5/5
