Addiction (Acrostic)

by Ingrid   Sep 16, 2015

All that was once sacred
Destroyed
Derogatory language
Insulting behaviour
Care and love gone to waste
Trust given to one unable to reciprocate
Indulging in destructive habits
Only to be stopped by the final breath
Never ending thirst creating never ending darkness

    Judging comment:

This poem is remarkably sad, albeit written well and with so much emotion. Despite being relatively short Ingrid manages to include the majority of what addiction can do to a person along with a mention of how it can affect those closest to the sufferer when trust is all but lost due to the actions committed and words said by the addicted.

"Only to be stopped by the final breath" This line is what hit me the hardest. So often those affected don't care about the danger they are putting themselves in, and rarely if ever think about the pain they are causing to those around them.

Really thought provoking write on a difficult topic.

A thought provoking poem Ingrid, very well written.
Says a lot, without saying a lot.
I enjoyed reading this. Makes one ponder on life.
