Tale of a Vanquished Heart

by Anthony M   Dec 5, 2009

Happiness unshared is a lie
just a cheap imitation of life
shallow and without meaning,
another lost soul waiting to die.

Surrounded by people, yet so alone
trapped in this prison of mine
screams fall upon deaf ears,
too many sins to be atoned.

Long days turn into years
sanity fades into yesterday,
memories haunt the mind
unrealized dreams become tears.

Love becomes a lost fantasy
replaced with a heart of pain
cast into the eternal abyss,
demons refuse to set me free.

This is so sad and full of a lot of emotion, I loved everything about your poem here..it was perfectly worded & easy to relate to portions of it. Well done!

    Anthony
So much sadness captured in your words. Capturing the reader and making them feel your pain. Graet imagery and word choices.

    Long days turn into years
    sanity fades into yesterday,
    memories haunt the mind
    unrealized dreams become tears.

Time becomes meaningless. When you are sitting alone without the one you love by your side to share your dreams. Sometimes fate steals this away. I can relate to your words. So many dreams that went unfullfilled :(

    Love becomes a lost fantasy
replaced with a heart of pain
    cast into the eternal abyss,
demons refuse to set me free.

One day you are surrounded with love and in the blink of a eye it is gone. Then the memories begin to haunt your soul. Just waiting to be free from the torture.
    Excellent job!

I believe things happen for a reason and that thing today is your posting this poem. You cannot know how this mirrors my feelings of the past several days. Every word struck a nerve as I read them. Well done.
