War (Double Butterfly Oddquain and Rictameter)

by Lady Nik   Jan 24, 2010

I
was there when
bullets shook their chest
blood came faster than my scream.
War
kills more than people with guns
the children waiting
until dad
arrives.

What if
he falls too soon
hoping to save someone
and never sees them play again?
Who will deliver the news to his wife?
War is not just a weapon race
people are hurt always
children wonder
what if

Dad
could come home
and share his medals?
I see what war does to life
But
I'm just a flower in dirt
keeping my roots safe
from the bombs
here.

*Butterfly Oddquain 1-3-5-7-1-7-5-3-1 and Rictameter 2-4-6-8-10-8-6-4-2. This was also a challenge by Mysterious Charmer to write a poem about a flower that has seen everything.*

War is a terrible thing, it ruins life & breaks
up a family. An excellent job with using
    different forms!
