Your Promises

by Stephanie   Aug 21, 2011

Here I am by the phone,
Even though I know I shouldn't,
I know on you I shouldn't depend,
Because I know you're only a friend

Your promises,
Laced with romance,
Are soft to the touch,
But coarse to the heart,
Because deep down,
I feel we will forever be apart

Your promises,
Have held me in place,
The place of uncertain oblivion
Who are we?
I can't be sure
For if you really cared,
The distance wouldn't matter
And our time would be shared

These silent calls,
Make your empty promises,
More unfulfilled

Your promises are gold,
They twinkle and shine,
But have no substance
I am the fool,
Of your stash of fool's gold

I shouldn't become so attached
After all, we won't last
I know you don't see it,
But I do
I see the end
And you're not there

Still by the phone,
Thinking to call
But I shouldn't
Because your promises get me high
And I can't deal with,
Your side effects
