A Deadly Crash

Turning on the evening news,
she looks at the clock,
wondering why he isn't here,
no phone call, no text,
looking at the tv screen,
news about a deadly crash comes on
as his name pops up.

Her jaw drops,
tears stream down her face,
grabbing her car keys,
racing to the scene of the accident,
sees the love of her life
getting zipped up in a body bag.

Pushing past the police tapes,
she runs to his body,
shaking him crying out baby please come back,
a police officer pulling her back,
saying you need to let him go,
falling to her knees,
she doesn't know why it had to be him.

They were supposed to have a movie night,
cuddling up next to one another,
looking into each other eyes saying i love you,
turned into a deadly crash,
she lost the love of her life,
all because she wanted to see him.

Images flashing through her mind,
him in that dreadful body bag,
every news station airing the crash,
tears stream down her face,
as she clutches his sweater,
asking why it had to be him.
