One Bad Cut

by believeinlove87   Nov 16, 2011

One, two, three,
she counts the cuts that
go up her arm,
reminiscing about the way it felt,
the way the blood ran out the cut,
dripping down onto the ground.

Trying to stop herself,
to throw out that blade for good,
incapable of quitting this addiction,
knowing all it takes is one cut;
one vein sliced threw completely,
and she'll be saying hello to death.

Blood stained shirts,
hundreds of bracelets to cover them,
ashamed how far shes gone,
running to that blade for the littlest thing,
cutting again, and again till her arm goes numb,
why can't I stop she thinks,
I don't want this to be the end of me.

Four, Five, Six,
so many she repeatedly starts over
losing count in the one hundreds,
old scars, new scars, that sharp blade,
cutting herself more and more,
incapable of quitting this addiction,
she knows more then ever, if she doesn't
stop she won't make it after one bad cut.

Wow, Holly this poem is so deep and filled with hurt... it really touched me... I love that the opening line was "One, two, three" and the the last stanza was a continuation "Four, five, six" ... it really added to the story you told in this poem. It was really sad, and the concept of cutting is horrible! (I really hope this isn't true) But I like that you talked about this hard subject, I know many people can relate to it. Great job with this poem hon!

I am not impressed with cutting poems, maybe it's for lack of understanding the concept. But you did a good job in writing it. Nicely done
