Few...Cigarettes Ago

by Sunshine   Dec 11, 2011

A blade of yellow grass
a bar of black chocolate
half wrapped in a gift custom,
both on a sheet of paper
that died before me
as I sat dumbly
with a speck of dust
on my forehead...

Also a pile of rubbish
between a crew of lines
you threw between the boarders
of the gift card...few cigarettes ago
or hours ?

I can't believe you forgot
how in love I've always been
with white chocolate, or did
you choose a dark bar
so that I remember how
bitter your presence is?

Well I've smoked out
your memory again,
you can as well come
clean the ashes I've left
behind me

on your new lover's favorite
table.
Guess that bar wasn't for me
no it wasn't...
was it ?

Well don't cheat on her too, not yet,
not before I close the door behind me.

The title of this poem was very eye-catching.

At first I thought maybe this poem was about an addiction of some kind but then I read the poem and knew I was wrong.

I love how you used chocolate as evidence that he was cheating on you. Finding a gift that was not meant for you but his new lover? Kind of reminds me of the movie that was on last night - Love Actually - where she finds the jewellery that was meant for the other girl. Very heartbreaking

Such a sad poem and raw with emotion. I love the ending - I was moved!

    Well done

I love the title too.. crafted creatively :)

And, I'll just say that I love this piece. Maybe it's a typical cheating one, but you have a way of changing that into your own, original and vivid masterpiece.

The colors of chocolate bars really reflects the atmosphere, how it was before, and how it turned out to be. And I like the idea of your lover bringing another color of chocolate bars, and your suspicion, it just helps in building the over-all tension, mama-mia, that's awesome.

You don't just Rock! You Roll also ;)

the last line was my fav part on this entire poem, the wondering it reflects is just amazing, you seem to have lost the sense of time, so you start wondering.

you used dark and white chocolate to symbolize something totally new, but you delievered the image so vividly.

    Well I've smoked out
    your memory again,
    you can as well come
    clean the ashes I've left
    behind me

Well don't cheat on her too, not yet,
not before I close the door behind me.
