What To Do And When To Do It

by xoxShorteexox   Jan 13, 2012

Passionately singing a sad song
as if my life depended on hitting
every high note in the book just
for this one night of happiness.

Whispering sweet nothings into
the wild in hopes that will be
sent sailing into your hungry
ear to know that you are loved.

Desperately clinging to every
ounce of hope that you'll fall
asleep by my side without
any unexpected night terrors.

Writing letters to give you
even if it takes years for you
to understand the meaning
behind each heartfelt sentence.

It's hard knowing exactly what
to say to you before you're even born,
but I already know you'll be the
apple of my eye, my darling child.

No, I'm not a parent or going to be a parent anytime soon; just writing that came to mind that I went with.

Aww this is such a sweet poem! I really loved it... I thought it was about about a partner but then at the end you showed it was for an unborn child. The opening stanza captivated me.. I liked how you said you were passionately singing that song and trying to hit every note as if your life depended on it.. it was different.

The second stanza was really sweet and heartfelt <3

    This was my favorite stanza:

    Writing letters to give you
even if it takes years for you
    to understand the meaning
    behind each heartfelt sentence.

    >> I love the idea of writing letters, and writing a future letters seems really sweet and a lovely gesture... I like how you pointed out it would take years to understand the meaning behind every sentence.
This also made me think of poetry, and how some people don't understand it.. so if you write a poem for someone who doesn't get poetry, it may not affect them or it could take time for them to really understand the meaning.

Great job with this poem, and it was a nice perspective.
