The Girl behind the Mask

by Girl of Conviction   Mar 31, 2012

She stands right infront of the mirror every morning before school, getting ready for yet another day of wearing a mask, hiding from who she really is. The eyeliner and the mascara she puts on is to try and hide the pain in her eyes from crying everynight from being told she was never good enough. Next she looks back to the mirror, eyes check, now time for foundation. Not only to cover up the acne but to cover up all the scars and pain from being told how ugly she is, even though the truth was she was far from it, she just couldnt see it.

Time for blush, adding color to her cheek bones, to add color to her black and white world. To show people she's ok when the truth is she's hit rock bottom. Lipstick, she pulls it out and adds a light pink color to her lips, lips that have been shut for too long.. Lips that were never strong enough to speak up for herself.

Day by day its the same routine, the same makeup, the same mask. Shes put up with everyones negativity for so long she just learned to accept it. Forcing herself to laugh when she wants to cry, saying im fine instead of i need help. Pride is what become of her. But can you blame her? Her trust in people isnt what it use to be. Hearing a compliment every now and then she doesnt believe.. How can she? When for years shes forced to believe the hurtful words from people who knew nothing about her but just by what they saw, they judged.

If only they took the time to get to know the real her, maybe she wouldnt have a wall so high build up all around her. Maybe she wouldnt have to hide behind that mask...

    This is a sad poem:/

That any girl can relate to hiding who they really are not wanting to show the real them!
