Regret

by CathyButterflyJC   May 23, 2012

Regret is when you took away the light
Of something that now won't ever be alright
You pushed happiness to take flight

Because you twisted fate
You turn to yourself with hate

And you regret
What could have been so bright
But you removed holding them tight

And you don't know what to do
You blame yourself that you're through

Or maybe you got wrapped in a fight
And you wanted to take back
What blinded your sight
Enough to walk away

As you watch it fade
The promises you made

Lay
Damaged and afraid
Lost and never found
Punches go around

You wish it back all day
Every second that's wasted away

You yearn for the words to kiss
And all the hugs you desperately miss
And you last in all those moments of bliss

Life hits you hard
You've gotten the jail card

You regret the waves
Away walks the loves
Forever haunts the death doves

Trapped in lies
Stabbed with goodbyes

I feel myself fall
As blood pours from the wall
No one to call
I'm losing it all

Hanging off a burning rope
And not knowing how to cope

Broken inside
Nowhere to hide
Miseries on all sides
Slowing dying within

You pictured an ending
Or maybe thought everything was mending

Because of regrets you hide at the start
When you felt whole
Before he knifed your heart
And left so many scars
And words bring many a dart
And you want to end life
As you are still ripping me apart

Hello to an outstanding friend
That was too good to never end

Here I fray
Where our memories lay
My soul will decay
As forever each day
I pray
That there was a way
So you everlastingly stay

Regret is feedback of defeat. Watching out, is cheaper than blame.

Gorgeous piece. Haunting. I love the rhyming but I think you needed more of a stanza structure. Beautiful though :)
