The Succubus

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 26, 2012

He is a visitant upon my
forelegs,
grappling one hand
on what is screened
with black lace-

because I apprehend
wretchedness.

Skin densified,
his neck an itching
penchant,
I try, too remissly,
to pull back...

but his crowded lips
have already stormed
between my cheekbones,

and I am not myself.

My desinence is without
exception; the glare from
his eyes was always
indulgence,
for when I found him
helplessly waiting,

I never guessed it would be
to take my soul and clench
a pulse that's been reminded-

nightmares are
soulless, an amaranthine
thought I've been christened
to simulate

and never return from.

* I know "succubus" means a female demon but it can also mean just demons in general. I just wanted to convey someone who is taunting and merciless and found this word.
*couldn't get back to sleep and was thinking of a zombie movie I saw last year; never watching a scary movie again! I just needed to write this out, get that nightmare out of my head. Thanks for reading.

I'm wondering what was the name of the zombie movie? I like the word succubus for some odd reason the sound reminded of succumb..though it doesn't mean the same..

succumb to the succubus and she shall sleep within seconds... I'm not good with alliteration..

I like this poem, there was a haunting atmosphere, I also liked the note. You know so much vocabulary, I'm impress at that, I see new words in your poems, and I find myself looking for the meanings lol. Which is good, I'm learning new words, thank you

Oh thanks Luce! It's called "Quarantine"- it was about a virus breaking out that turned humans into something like zombies. But boy it was haunting. I love to learn new words too, glad you enjoyed it.
