Green Emeralds

by Maple Tree   Aug 22, 2012

When I write of green emeralds

you know my spirit is crying,

for it is within darkness

that I swing from branch,

to branch,

so that I may retrieve

the smile

that fell out of

my pocket.

I always find it comforting to read your pieces, because you indirectly can touch a thousand souls going through multiple different circumstances, everyone can relate to your words.

Emeralds are such beautiful gems and the representation of them here makes me think of life and living life to the full, maybe when you were younger.

I love the idea of swinging from branch to branch as if you are unsettled and unsure of your home and place, trying to find out where you belong.

This piece in it's shortness just holds so much meaning, to everyone

A wonderful wonderful piece of poetry, once again

This is one of the most enjoyable poems I have ever read by you, Andrea. I apologise that I haven't commented on your work lately, you know that I want to... Just circumstances.

I loved this piece with its simple layout and touching meaning. I agree with Hellon that I wanted to read more but once I finished and grasped it well, I couldn't imagine that it might have looked better. Of course I right away thought of childhood, I felt emeralds represent something really nostalgic to you, and the 'green' may mean liveliness, peace or a relationship so everlasting. I love poetry when it talks of old days and childhood.

I felt in this piece, you were trying to say that you lost something important along the way, when you were a kid. And you want so bad to come back to it somehow. I heard regret in your voice, something so appealing to me, something I relate to.

I know this comment is horrible and doesn't do the smoothness of your words just but I am on my phone and it kills me when I type. I just needed you to know that I loved, loved, loved this little gem.

    Have a good day/night/evening!

I can't help but wonder if this has any connection with emeralds being your birth stone. This poem is really cryptic to me. I can usually figure out what you're writing about but this one has me really lost.

That, and I can't get the image of you shaking your butt while climbing a tree, and swinging like a monkey. LOL

This is one of those poems that I really wish you'd elaborate on but...perhaps, for some reason you can't? I'm not sure if the green emeralds represent someones eyes or has some other significance that I'm not picking up on.

Swinging from branch to branch, to me, means you are unsettled about something and you would swing to the other side of the world to get this smile back...it fell out of your pcket sometime...perhaps happier times and you didn't notice it was gone then...just my thoughts once more :)

Aww, my maple tree. Look in your other pocket, there are many smiles there sent from me to you so you can borrow them when needed. Loved the poem. x
