How It Rains in Damascus

by nouriguess   Oct 13, 2012

I guess I will taste so much salt
this year - our garden has withered since August
and at the lintel, I already see a sycamore
hung and screaming.
You're out there walking with an orange
leaf, miniatured
in death and nostalgia and death and
nights and death and death.
And our memories.

And that's all.

Today is one of those days that could
slip through my calendar without dressing in
black, I'm warm and full and
nibbling at a nectarine and children are fighting
outside. Everything is as motionless as
any of my writes
... except that it's raining.
(Or esta lloviendo, right?)
I remember our vows under
each raindrop; your eyes had the vulnerability
of a yacht flopping between
unknown rocks and my hands
tried to gather the dimensions of a forgotten
ocean in them.

My poetry had only spoken of your eyes
since then, they were beautiful. Sad
but beautiful.
Too beautiful to morph into a piece
of art, even though I was a Bohemian
painter by that time.

I guess we will taste so much salt from
now on, though the weather reporter
promised me it won't rain this Winter.

Just some rambling, might delete it in a few days.
Opinions and critiques are always appreciated. (:

Haha, I swear I imagined Yaki doing what she said she will.

    Why delete this, sugar?

It's so beautiful, so original, so well-built. And that was a stunning turn in the end.
