The number 23

by The Poet Behind The Poems   Nov 7, 2012

"It's just a number"
"It's just a number"

It was just a number, but a gun
is just a gun till you add a bullet,
my mind was the ammo everywhere
I look it was there haunting my thoughts
It was like a disease and I was its host.

I wake up , water pouring down my head
the clock flashes

23:00

My doctors appointment 2.30
My house number 32
Soon I was seeing it in my sleep

232323232323232323232323232323232323232323232323232323

I can't get away , why won't you go away ,
I stand on this balcony ready to end this
curse hoping it dies with me -

I take one final leap still the thought
repeating in my head-

"It's just a number"
"It's just a number".

---------------------------------
I wasn't sure about this but
I thought I'd share it lol
Wrote it ages ago not had
Time to sort it so thought
I'd post it how I first wrote it ha ha

People have different fears and phobias, it's not "just a number" to you... just like it's not "just a spider" to someone who fears spiders. I hate when people say things like that, lol.

I like the metaphor of the gun, it's so true. A gun is harmless, just a piece of metal until you add the bullets. Also, it's not the gun who is dangerous, it's the person who holds the gun.

    Very interesting piece!

My favourite number is 4 and I have issues with 13 maybe because it is number of The Death in Tarot cards.I also feel uncomfortable with some other numbers.Really liked your piece.

Do you know what I can sadly relate to this because I have issues with the number 28, and how you describe that it is just a number ( how many other people will also see it ) but in our head it is so much more, it is a curse that may cause bad things to happen to ourselves or to the ones we love. It becomes obsession to notice the numbers and by trying to ignore it or forget them we think about it even more!

I like how you used the gun here, it is very true a gun is harmless and really is just a gun until the bullets are added to it and someone unresponsible takes it into their hands. This was a very good way to express how you felt about this!

Great write and I am glad you shared it!
