Sup Tonight?

by QueenGwen   Jan 8, 2013

** this was a tough one to write, about an abusive relationship, the lies told, one really good friend and the realization that i can move on

** another side note, i know that some of the poem has lines from another one of my poems i did that beacause that first one was written during this relationship

*******************************************
Burdens that lay heavy in air
Lighten they may but always there

Here I lie, awake in bed
that night on replay inside my head
You raised your fist, sadly not a first
tears and sobs awaiting the worst

You had me isolated, alone and weak
so depressed, too hurt to speak
Finally able to call a friend, yet to my surprise
all that was spoken were total lies

He hit me just once, the chin, a glancing hit
just one punch that was it
Yes it's over, forever done
behind the lies, sadly it's just begun

Burdens that lay heavy in air
Lighten they may but always there

You seek me out, I'm too weak to flee
"I'm so sorry, I was drunk, please forgive me"
Not new words, all heard before
which is why I'm soon out the door

Talks with friends soon slip away
there's something standing in our way
My lies become to overwhelming
yet to them I desperatly cling

One voice breaks through my sheltering wall
and to him I am able to tell all
of the real first hit, the bruises and cast
all that had happened of the six months past

Burdens that lay heavy in air
Lighten they may but always there

Another soul knows all I have confessed
lightening the weight crushing my chest
Yet here I lie, awake in bed
that night on replay inside my head

Your number is gone, deleted in a feat of strength
an act regretted and rethought at length
It's gone as have I insane
Where's Superman to save his Lois Lane

My phone lights up, a buzz alerts me
I look and a smile escapes free
"sup tonight?" those words mean more
a friendly face and a past to ignore

Burdens lighten as truth pierces the air
Lighten they do until nothing is there
