Conscience

by Khalid M Darwish   Feb 2, 2013

Your conscience, your campus
As a poet, don't lose it
I always advise my pen
not to betray my conscience

I have good friends
and excellent books
and sleeping conscience
I feel it's a good life

All what the tyranny requires for existence is
keeping those of life conscience silent
because it can't ban them from committing sin
but rather hinders them to enjoy when committing it

When I plan to do something
I always think of consequences, just to be safe
because who often obey his desire
will definitely fall in astray

The most dangerous thing in the world
is honorable ignorance and life-conscience stupidity
Just give me reporters with no conscience
and I'll give you a nation with no awareness

This reminds me of the expression "Look before you leap." You never know if you're going to lose something, unless you actually think out what you're going to do, before, or if, you do it.

"When I plan to do something
I always think of consequences, just to be safe
because who often obey his desire
    will definitely fall in astray"

It is true, that if we followed our every desire we have, our lives can become difficult. Not only is it a selfish way to live, it's a dangerous way.

    Great poem!

Consciences let us sleep or not at night, that is if people have one. Though everyone should, I don't how some people get rid of it.. or if they even had one.. thoughtful piece.

Awww.. wow Khalid this poem is so well-written and influential! The title caught my eye. I love the message you're portraying in this poem.. it's really strong and I can tell how important it is to you.

I really pondered over the ending... in fact I'm still thinking about it!

    Well done!

Thank you Sara. The last stanza means that conscience makes nations aware of life and I mentioned the role of reporters here because as you know deviated news can make people upside down.
