Black Sun Rising

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 7, 2013

The light slowly fades
as the sun disappears behind the hill,
and I am the only one left
kneeling beside your grave.

I look at the city buildings
which make beautiful silhouettes
across the orange canvas,
which yesterday seemed blue.

My shivering body curls up,
tightly hugging the polished rock
that is newly engraved
with the name of my one true love.

Arranging the freshly picked flowers
given to you by hearts of others,
I make a pillow of silk petals
to lay my head down next to you.

Drops of loneliness escape my eyes
as the dirt beneath me absorbs their pain
and carries it to where you sleep
so you can comfort me.

I fall asleep in the warmth of your memories
as I witness with you the sunset for the last time.

For in the morning when I awake,
I know my eyes will painfully open
to see the black sun rising.

Wow - absolutely, genuinely brilliant writing. This really does ooze class. As sad as it is, it can't help but be beautiful. Too many great lines to choose but "I know my eyes will painfully open to see the black sun rising" really is superb. To never see happiness in things again - not even the sun, which is now black to you. One of the best poems I've read on this site.

I completely agree with Ben. The feels of this poem...haunting and bittersweet...something I won't easily forget. Superb write.

An Irreplaceable write, beautiful in darkness and wrought with the purest despair. I like the centralized idea the ends up uniting the poem "the black sun" incorporating this validates the rest of the write into one beautiful package.
