I Just Keep My Distance

by William Mae   Feb 18, 2013

I Just Keep My Distance

I've watched her at the ocean,
Sit and view the thrashing waves,
But I just keep my distance,
Watching ships sail far away.

She tosses pebbles to the water,
Brushes dirt from off her hand,
But I just keep my distance,
Sitting quietly in the sand.

I desire to sit beside her,
To try my key at her hearts door,
But I just keep my distance,
While she sits beside the shore.

I wonder if her heart is lonely,
Empty, as it seems to be,
But I just keep my distance,
Sitting in the evening breeze.

She sits quietly thinking,
He comes here every day,
But she just keeps her distance,
Wishing I would walk her way.

This is beautiful , the simplicity in this piece
Pushs raw emotions through the words and into hearts
I loved how you kept it all based on the ocean ,
This is a prime example of how simple Poerty works
    Wonders ,

    Well done indeed

You already know how I feel about your poetry William..No one does a rhymer like you. I love the story this told and feel as if I was watching the whole poem take place. It flowed along beautifully. And this is my fav stanza, if found it incredibly sad.

I desire to sit beside her,
To try my key at her hearts door,
But I just keep my distance,
While she sits beside the shore.

So nice to see you penning :) once again.

Yeah that ending just sums it all up on how two people want to love the other but has not the courage to speak it out or approach that person to spill what their heart wishes.

It's a lonely feeling which I'm sure everyone of us have experienced it..thanks for the read :)
