Tea Time with Mary

by Maple Tree   Apr 28, 2013

I nestled in blanketed memories,
morning specs of daybreak chose
to wave hello in greeting,
and she rose to have tea
with me, one more time.

She knew I would struggle
with "the end", her spirit
rode upon a morning breeze
listening to every word I
allowed to pour from my
silent tongue.

I've always felt she knew everything
until her wings flew from vision,
stumbling over teaspoons, dancing
sugar cubes, allowed me to have one
more moment with her.

Happened around six thirty this dawn,
soft wrinkles grazed a drooping smile
allowing me to tell her why she reigned
high priestess of friendship in my heart.

It's nothing she didn't know before,
but I couldn't express it quite as powerful
as I did this morning,
it held no meaning until her departure.

Means everything now,
granting one more tea cup chat
she smiled in shadows of
billowy curtains and whispered-

I know Andi, I love you too.

This is so touching, but so sad. I can't decide what this is. This is so great, Andrea. Always such gorgeous writing. Such a calming picture in my head, and just everything about this is peaceful.

I'm trying to comment properly, and I can't even do that. This is such a sweet poem.

    She knew I would struggle
    with "the end", her spirit
    rode upon a morning breeze
    listening to every word I
    allowed to pour from my
    silent tongue.

This was just so sad. It has this sleepy kind of feel to it. Almost a numbness, but not quite. I can't explain. I just really love this.

Absolutely stunning, Andrea. The sadness is evident.. however, the visit and the ending hold so much comfort. Tea time with her was something special you shared and you will always hold onto those memories...and she will too. <3

    Touching, oh so very touching.
