From within the dark

by Robert   Aug 2, 2013

I tore open my chest
Letting my heart pour out
Within my hand's I lifted it high
As it still faintly beat's tear's rushed my eye's

Depression from what I had held
Broken, and never healing
Time had become endless, and so was I
Accustomed to my fate my seldom was the sky

Radiant and vibrant it soothed my soul
A space so beautiful, but yet so unreachable
Far away I was from understanding who I am
Where is it I am heading; What is my plan

Compassion for other's had became a vicious cycle
Love was but a memory that over time I had forgotten
The comfort felt when brushed by a gentle breeze, and
Flower petal's filling the air swirling endlessly

Ah the splendor found in nature, and the sun above me
A warmth that seemed to heal no matter how far I had fallen
To what do I bid your gentle caress
As I become lost in your light much more or less

Plagued by guilt I locked myself tight
Caged in from the outside world
Still there was more, more I wanted to try
Sadness became who I was, and was a part of me I couldn't deny

Upon the setting of the sun the star's lit the sky
Giving encouragement and hope telling me to keep living my life
Trapped within layer's of darkness I became blind
Still I believed; still I tried to climb

And in that moment was the moment I had waited for
The piercing of my lock breaking down my caged door
An unfamiliar hand reached out within the dark,
and in that moment my life had hit a spark

Light so bright, almost like the sun
Came from a smile so sincere, and eye's so gentle
Held tightly within her breast's I couldn't help but cry
As she said it's alright now we all can fly

That was an awesome write!! I enjoyed your style of writing, as well as your creative abilities to portray your message. I mostly like that I am able to relate. When a author is able to make a reader feel like they're reading about themselves, it's a great reward. To know that someone else understands, in some cases-to think there is hope for an ending like that for themselves. It was also nice that it did have a happier ending as it was certainly a heartfelt poem. Great job Robert!! 5/5
