Lost

Lost
By Mark Spencer

While driving through an unfamiliar place
I felt like I was lost without a trace
My journey's end appeared so out of reach
A barrier I couldn't seem to breach

I happened through a shabby part of town
An area neglected and run down
And I became determined to retreat
As I crouched down upon my driver's seat

But every road I took led me off course
As if guided by some dark unseen force
And with each turn another line was crossed
Until I found myself completely lost

The fear began to override my thoughts
It seemed as though my stomach was in knots
I stopped to see if I could catch my breath
Afraid that this misstep would be my death

And then I saw a sign just down the road
A sign I must have missed until I slowed
I felt delivered by the words I read
"This is the way to go" is what it said

I learned my greatest lesson on that day
When I got back on track and found my way
My eyes were opened when I saw that sign
Perhaps I even glimpsed the grand design

For I believe we have a destiny
A dowdy end or place that sets us free
Though life's byways might seem a bit criss-crossed
To find your way sometimes you must get lost

    Judging Comment:

I like the message in this write. An important lesson
of life has been taught here using "driving" as a
scenario. The driver is on his way but somewhere
along the line gets lost; at the same time filled
with doubts and fears. Then in the fifth stanza
he tells how divine intervention put him on the
right path showing him the way. Perhaps
showing much more creating a renewed sense in life.

I especially liked these last lines:

Though life's byways might seem a bit criss-crossed
To find your way sometimes you must get lost

^^Yes so very true. Sometimes we have to get lost
in order to find our way and live life with faith. We
all have our fate written and once in a while God
shows us the way when things go wrong.

    An encouraging read.
