Once in full bloom

by Dagmar Wilson   Feb 27, 2016

I was a flower in full bloom
providing intense color to those around me.
I could sit in the sun
not thirsty for water,
my stem was their light.
Misfortune led me to lose my scent.

I love the double meaning and wonder what misfortune it was that led you to such a dark place. To me the image showed a younger person full in life with no worries or concerns but then ill health struck and took away everything

I loved the double meaning you could take from this poem...I saw a mother nurturing her children and basking in the small delight of them growing up to adulthood. What really intrigued me was your last line which did not seem quite in harmony with the rest of this piece...

    Dagmar,

A poem that can certainly be taken two ways - but neither one a happy route. What's particularly sad about it is how strong and how full of life you/the flower was and now you/the flower is tired/odourless. Life can leave us like this sometimes, can't it? The trick is to keep reaching for the sun!

I love this. All the best,
    Ben
