The money pit

by Brenda   Apr 9, 2016

14 gallons of primer
countless gallons
of paint
enough spackle, caulking,
rollers, brushes,
and paint trays
to start our own
paint shop...
spending time with you,
priceless...
-
washing walls
rewashing walls
washing those walls
yet one more time...
priming, patching, sanding
re-priming, re-sanding
again and again
and again...
spending time with you,
priceless...
-
tearing out
cleaning out
throwing away
years of someone else's
lives...
making this our own
turning this empty shell
into a home...
spending time with you,
priceless...
-
aching backs
sore feet
hands and arms
that won't stop locking up
cuts, gouges, blood lost
sprains
trips to the emergency room
bottles of Motrin
becoming our best friend...
spending time with you,
priceless...
-
money
lack of money
materials needed
countless trips to our
favorite stores...
contractors
work in progress
work in idle
work done right,
work done wrong.
building inspectors
inspections
re-inspections
re-re-inspections...
time spent with you,
priceless...
-
so much to do
so little time
too little energy
left
in these
middle age bodies...
for all the hassles
for all the problems
I'd do it all over
just to spend time
with you...
I love you!

    Brenda,
Such a beautiful piece. We are re-doing our house this upcoming week so I can relate to this and can't wait. I think it helps with the spark too. Don't you?

Em, Thank you! I totally agree with it helping with the spark-you get so much out of the fact you did this together, as a team. I absolutely love our house and the fact we did it makes me love him and the house all the more. Good luck this week with your re-do! I know it will be fabulous when you are done! Take care! Brenda

Lovely romantic poem. It reminded me of every time I have ever moved and tried to make a home and it captures exactly all the stresses and challenges and still wanting to be with the one you love.

Thanks Milly! They say you can tell a lot about of a relationship when you reno a house-I can happily say we did really well.
