A Young Widows 1st Anniversary

by Someone Invisible   Jul 8, 2016

A car door.
Heels on pavement...
What was that?
The cat in the garbage.

Uneven steps
Fumbling fumbling
Where are they?
Side pocket, got 'em.

Unlock the door handle
It wont open
What's wrong with it?
Oh right, deadbolt.

Side door slams
Its so dark.
Wheres the-
Found it with my shins.

Down the hall
Into our bedroom
Our?
That sounds wrong.

Rustling under the bed
Childhood fears crawl in you skin
What could it be?
Just my cat, okay.

Fingers slide on the wall for the light
Oh, too bright, too bright
Wheres the lamp?
Thats better.

Toed off heels and thrown stockings
Stumble to the closet
Where is it, where is it?
The Shirt, his scent almost gone.

Really liked this very much. Short quick journey into a home that reveals so much more than it says by a woman racing desperate to get back to the place where she can get one last smell of her husband before it fades completely away. Loved it Milly x

Wow, this is so beautifully done yet pretty sad. I know the feeling of having to let go even when I don't want to.

    All the best, Em

Beautifully sad and well done.Your visuals are spot on, the struggle to maintain his smell, not wanting to let go even when she knows she has to. Take care -
