The Decision Maker

by Mark Rawlins   Mar 9, 2017

Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons'
was interrupted by a voice,
telling me all the reasons
that she didn't have a choice...

'We have to keep to times', she said,
'and you were ten minutes late'.
'It tells you on the signs', she said,
'so you'll have to accept your fate'.

'There has to be some sanctions,
and rules are rules are rules,
the consequence of your actions
and for treating us like fools'.

'But I haven't any food', I said,
'and I haven't any money.'
'The children all need shoes,' I said,
'it really isn't funny.'

'This is no time to moan,' said she,
'you should have thought before.'
'Now please get off the phone,' said she,
'you undeserving poor!'

So, the matter is out of her hands
and I'm branded a rule breaker ...
until my appeal paper lands
with the Decision Maker.

So I'm queuing at the food banks
and I'm begging in the rain.
For your charity I must give thanks,
for your cruelty is my pain.
