Harvey

Hardly invisible certainly not six feet tall
this storm reduces hope through the hours
gradually erasing 500 years of records
taking homes and property in endless showers.

I see would be rescuers passing by
who can't even maneuver their boats
into the flood-drowned streets to launch
skiffs and Zebras into the frothy moats.

Gawkers walk past my elevated lot
headed to the drowned streets to see
the fate that might actually engulf homes
seemingly high above hellacious beastly.

Im not sure which is worst today
the insane humane need to help
or the inhumane need to to witness
disaster
and see what the the gods have dealt.

    Larry for me always seem to write about his life experiences and this is obviously no exception. We have an extremely profound write about storm Harvey which is affecting many people right now and will continue to do so when it's gone because of the damage it's already caused and I was blown away by the last stanza because it goes to show that humans are 50% humane helping because of the damage done and 50% monsters - going to see the damage done which in my opinion is interesting as I don't think he meant to but it gives a real perspective on the human race in itself.

    Fantastic piece and rhyming which is saddening to read. That ending though is just a snippet of the human race 1/2 nosey parkers who don't want to help and 1/2 helpers though I reckon there's more humane people than that but they aren't always noticed.

    These past few days have been insane. This storm proved to be more emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting than I think anyone ever expected. It is amazing how strong and amazing people can be, and it's warmed my heart significantly to see people coming together to do everything they can to help. But unfortunately there will always be those people who don't care or just make things harder...and to quote Ben (who put it perfectly into words) prove just how "bloody frustrating the human race is." This is a great and powerful write! Well done and hang in there! I hope you are safe and doing well.

    Larry, a thoughtful write. It amazes me, although it shouldn't how people react to a crisis. Either they jump in and help or stand there and gawk, or use it as an opportunity to exploit. You really covered it all. My prayers go to everyone affected by Harvey.

    Its pure devastation at its worse and it does make
    people angry when some come to view it as a sight seeing rather
    then lending a hand..so many have lost their memories and their
    valuables let alone lives...I can only pray but wish to do more...
