Red Alert

by Mandy   Aug 31, 2017

You snuck into my life
Through a back door
Riding in on the pain of another

You bled into my heart
Leaving your mark here and there
Taking care not to smother

Slowly you crept in
To my life, my heart
Became my everything

And I, blinded by comparisons
Overlooked the obvious
Allowed myself to cling

To your words, your touch
Despite knowing there were lies
Overrode common sense

I can only fault myself for this
Knowing I could claim "I was vulnerable!"
Left myself with no defense

But the blame is mine for knowing
I could have seen the truth
With such obvious warnings

Now the loss I weep for is yours
I'm exhausted from the parade
Of endless mourning

Thank you Brenda....it's nice to get nice comments about these poems but sometimes the subject matter I find sad to hear others relate because it's about hurt. Thank you for your kind words :D
