Depression

by Risqué   Oct 23, 2017

You blanket me and refuse to leave
So rude and unwelcome.
You hold on tight around my neck
I fight for calm as I know what’s next.

Frosted fingers grip tighter and tighter
My eyes gloss over and I lose the fight
I’ve so easily become the outsider;
Your darkness takes over, and you smile.

Your wicked grin; such a sin
You’ve pried your way under my skin
Your claws so far down my throat
Burning like the tears in my eyes

They empty, like a flood crashing its way into my home.
The emptiness washes over,
My soul has been overthrown
And you are here to take reign.

You scatter from the inside out
Settling into my bones; your lovely home
And I have become hollow
As you’ve so quickly cleaned house

I blanket you and refuse to leave
So rude and unwelcome
I hold on tight around your neck
And you, so collected, know what’s next.

Oh darkness, had I wished you’d booked a return flight
Instead of crashing into my heart tonight
I’ve now dug my own grave in defeat
While waiting for the day you’ll let me leave.

As I read this, I felt the pain described. This was quite riveting, if I say so myself. Nice work!

    Risqué,

This piece has such a darkness, but a with all your writing you manage to say it with such calm, which allows the reader to digest the feeling of what you have written.
Another fine piece, albeit the turmoil of depression, which only too well resonates with myself.
    Well done and
    much love and warmth
