Edelweiss for Marie

by Mark   Apr 2, 2018

My darling Marie utters to me
“my love I will marry thee
on condition twice;
climb the tall alpine
and gather me - edelweiss.”

Flowery white – delicate n' slight
no wonder - bestowed this plight
"whether asked it thrice,
I will climb the alpine
and gift thee - edelweiss.”

Crevices I count and high I mount
that your heart be mine in fount,
and if frozen to ice;
I'd incline - on the alpine
in statued hand – edelweiss.

I am here! On summits' great tier!
“Marie is mine!” To Gods I cheer,
soon we'll be in splice,
for I did climb the alpine
for Maries' – edelweiss.

To Marie's embrace – no warmer grace
for glow shrines her face,
“Marie no mountain is a price
so now be mine - near the alpine
with our emblems – edelweiss.”

    The first thing that popped into my mind when I read the title
    was the movie Sound of Music...love that movie and this write has
    all the warm and smiles of love. Liked how you mixed Edelweiss
    with your feelings and providing a lovely scenery...nice work!

    Yes, I love this poem like everyone else seems to - it really is 'pure' poetry, whatever that is...

    Take care, Mark

    okay, so I here I am singing, "Edelweiss"
    I like this romantic poem. based on the 'sound of music' each verse building in imagery and intensity. I also like your use of the word "edelweiss" as a refrain - lovely and sweet.
