Laying foetal in the shadows
Defensive and victimised
A shape outlined with chalk
Your crime so simplified

A trophy held aloft
An ego reinstated
The broken spirit a small price
For the win manipulated

You thought that it would keep you warm
This victory you stole
But in the dead of night when all alone ...

... you're still you - and you're still cold.
