My Love

When I finally loved myself there you were
When I was finally ready to be loved you saw me
When I was finally comfortable with who I was,
You found me.
And I knew it was you.
I
just
knew.
That first phone conversation,
The beginning of a lifetime of conversation and laughter and companionship.
So easy to talk and talk and talk
So gentle,
both of us
Open and gentle
Unannounced, our souls just recognising each other,
very quietly
Just quiet and easy conversation and sharing.
No fanfare,
Just an allowing of the flow between us to grow.

And then, our first meeting,
We both just nodded,
Yes,
Yes,
We
just
knew.

    Hello - nice to meet you.

    Better still to read this poem.

    I like the format - the trailing words down the page meant to emphasise a point - each word of that point.

    The poem sounds like the infancy of a blossoming relationship. To me, perhaps, a dating site conversation? I recall many hours liking and swiping people/ faces/ profiles. Then, eventually, exchanging numbers and sometimes good, sometimes not - the voice would sound right, wouldn't it? Then, many hours, late into the night, talking to them. The feelings of anticipation would grow, excitement - maybe this would be the one. A date is set, a time to meet, to find out if they are everything my head wants, dare I say needs, them to be?

    I love the way you end this - its perfect. 'we just knew'

      Yes, this is a meeting from an online dating site, and it went exactly like this. We've now been very happily married for 11 years, so we did indeed know!

      I'm very new to sharing my poetry like this and even newer to this site, so I am still appreciating the niceties and getting to understand the community. So your interest and feedback is very much appreciated Mr. Darcy
