The costs of death

by Michael   May 22, 2019

These hands of mine, are worn and done
the math they held, was more than some.
Both grief and loss was on my right
my left did hold, the wrongs and light

My heart was ruled, my head was too
which left me much, without a clue.
Along the dotted lines, I signed
then said farewell and then, I sighed.

The cost of death, no tidy sum
a total I just must succumb.
They all reach out for mothers hand
to help them with what was unplanned

To care and tend to little wounds
and keep them safe beneath my plume
I soon forgot, about my needs
that nearly brought me to my knees

Maternal strength is well received
which helps me now, that I do grieve
The cost of death paid me a test
but now it's done, my mind can rest.

(for my sister)
