King Of My Jungle:

by Scott Cole   Jun 5, 2019

Sometimes I hoot and holler
And beat upon my chest,
I think I'm going bananas
Not always at my best.

For there's a jungle out there
And I'm no silverback,
So I'm not designed to carry
This monkey on my back.

There's misery all around us
The rainforest never sleeps,
There's always teardrops falling
Things for which to weep.

For the woes seem to thrive
In the pitch black of our hearts,
Like an animal on the warpath
That's not scared of the dark.

Though my soul can be feeble
When I battle with my struggles,
I always have the advantage
For I'm the king of my jungle.

Cause I rule in the shadows
Even if my mind is fatigue,
For I do grow in my weakness
Though I'm blue and incomplete.

For I'm stronger than I imagine
When my thinking is off track,
So I must pull myself together
To keep this monkey off my back.

For I'm the king of my jungle
The caretaker of my brain,
I'm the master of my mind
The healer of my heart's pain.

I'm really loving your rhyming pieces Scott. They are filled to the brim with such lovely metaphors and have such a jaunty upbeat feel to them . Keep up the good work Milly x
