Sleeping beauty

by Michael   Jan 5, 2020

Its been so long
since you breathed
down my neck;
caressing my skin
with your warmth

I cant wait for you
to wake up, and see
the buds dilate in your eyes,
unearthing colours and scents
which have been buried
throughout the season.

Once again-
showing your face
bright and early
and wiping the smirk
from the dark mornings
where an orchestra of birds
play out a welcome.

Whistling a signature
tune of your return.

I miss the cosiness
of your company
as it can feel so much
more lonely in the cold

-and the winter
offers no sympathy.

An enchanting write, Michael! I especially loved the "orchestra of birds". I feel like so much is buried in this season, that parts of us can wake up when we see the soil again. Parts of us now are hidden, brought down by the loneliness and chill in our heart, but it won't last forever.
