Timed

by Obscure   Jan 6, 2020

Spinning years consume the air
And age comes creeping to my bed
I wondered once if time was fair
But when I asked it merely fled

The sunlight ages when it falls
From blue above to cold below
It dims and quivers like us all
As age steals all our youth and glow

Time strikes winter's frozen soil
and melts the frost that held it fast
Then in the spring we work and toil
To cherish things that cannot last

We thought time froze in photographs
but time's old fingers touch each page
And steal away the colored laughs
till every picture shows decay

We chase away the symptoms
Of a life lived long and well
Yet we fail to catch the wisdom
That our many years can tell

We tend to blame our offspring
For mistakes wrought in the past
And assuming we'll do everything
We miss the things that last

We take for granted what we've got
And moan and gripe for what we don't
We fail to do the things we ought
Until time tells us that we won't

Our life is timed by death itself
So in our time, we should do well
Instead of chasing fame and wealth
We should prepare for our farewell
