Hunger

by Walter   Jun 4, 2020

All alone as I'm sitting here
We've crossed the final bridge
The only sound that resonates
Is the humming of our fridge

You walked and took everything else
From once our home so filled
All I see now is emptiness
Left from our love you killed

You moved into another place
With somebody new
And then insisted all our things
Should only follow you

I stare at what's been left behind
The fridge now seems so bare
Once dressed with memories of our love
But they also followed you there

Pictures and notes once stuck on doors
So the fridge no longer white
But now stands out as if lifeless
Ever since we had the fight

And I can't help but to stare
At what's been left behind
The more I'm drawn I start to think
How much of you it reminds

The doors are jarred when I try
As if something that they hide
And only persistence will reveal
The coldness found inside

In the freezer all that I see
Food past its used by date
But you insisted on keeping all
Until it's now too late

And just like you with two sides
The fridge cold but just not ice
This the closest to you being warm
When you were trying to be nice

But of course when I look inside
It's just leftovers that I find
And obvious to you not worth taking
As they've been left behind

I'll do a favour and remove them all
So you have nothing left to hold
When I see through your emptiness
I wonder why you're still so cold

But I'm still holding on to you
Even though you don't invite
I need you there though you're the cause
Why I lost my appetite

So emotional, Walter! The symbolism of the fridge is portrayed quite well, especially in mentioning you have lost your appetite, but still feel close to this person, despite everything the fridge stands for. And I think an empty fridge on the outside shows that starkness. They decided not to take the leftovers, and it's up to you to start anew or fill it on your own. Yet, you're still holding on, and it may take time.

The title says it all... powerful verses, thank you for sharing this.
