Perfect Lies

by Lost Shadow   Aug 7, 2020

Reminiscing on lies that never happened
While we remember the pain

Unwilling to admit your role
Ignoring the damage you created

Tired of hearing about this made up family
Finally letting out the truth

Little hands reluctantly held yours
Posed for your fake family photo

Watched in disgust as you put on a show
Felt nauseated from listening to praise you received

No one saw the pain we endured
Only saw our fake smiles we had to wear

Exhausted from your performance
Superhero turned quickly to villain once the front door shut

All the liquid courage had kicked in
The monster was out to play

Hateful words thrown like daggers
Doors slammed with resentment

Staring at the fear in our eyes
You finally feel content

Left with no physical damage
Only emotional scars

With barely enough time to recuperate come the apologizes
The supposed mistakes, that happen over and again

That is what it was really like
Growing up with a monster called Dad
