Desire Versus Require

by Walter   Oct 28, 2020

There will often be things which we will crave
Where most of us will buy if we save
But sometimes we want what we can't afford
A yearning till we own it can't be ignored

Everyone is different with what they need
For some of us it's just to boast our greed
Often we are judged by what we own
And the richer you are the more that's shown

The multi-millionaire wants an expensive yacht
So he can moor on his jetty in the perfect spot
Maybe take it out once or twice a year
He wants the reputation of being premier

The middle-class man wants a huge TV
Which spans across his wall for all to see
His friends are envious and this he knows
As they always come to watch their favourite shows

The young boy who wants a hand console
To play the latest games with hand control
Saving all his pocket money he's real keen
But will probably have to wait until he's a teen

Then there's the beggar who lives on the street
Who has no money or even food to eat
Her only one wish is for her next meal
And survive without the need to beg, borrow, steal

Fantastic commentary on what we desire and want, versus what we need. It can be easy to get those mixed up and lose sight of our priorities in the heat of the moment. I feel like it's important to have not only self-awareness, but a better understanding on why we have what we have, and what we use it for in life. Living minimally can really put things into perspective, or even finding luxury and joy in the simple things that others take for granted.

    Nice job, Walter!

Thanks Poet and I think you summed it up perfectly with how perspective plays into it.
