Long Lost

All I ever wanted was for you to tell the truth,
which I believe you have known all along.
Years passed by as you blamed me for all the stress
that tore apart our family like a hurricane,
accusing me of inventing my abuse!
You made your choice to stay with him,
abandoning a loving family for the monster
that you know will always betray you.
You abandoned us and made it clear
that we were dead to you.

Then suddenly, your world came crumbling down,
as your monster abandoned you -
you ended up alone!
You suddenly change your story,
retracting all those pleas of denial
whilst you were stabbing me in the back
with your fake apologies and longing to seek my forgiveness.

I cautiously question your approach,
since you have a habit of lurking in the background,
then bombing back to make the same mistakes
over and over again,
hurting everyone around you.
Leaving his side doesn't make it right
that you stayed with him through all this turmoil.
you had your chance to be part of
what once was your family before I was even born,
but you lost that chance when you decided
to pick his poison over our love.

The truth is, what happened to me made us a stronger family
we grew closer without you.
We have suffered enough and we will never risk
letting your poison enter our family again,
with or without him by your side.

You made your choice,
you made your same mistake again.

That may mean leaving you like a crumbling mess.
but you have no one to blame but yourself.
