Faceless Romeo

by Kate   Feb 28, 2021

I think that we should end this
I know it’s been a while but I think that you’ll see
After all that’s happened
I’m not the woman for you like I thought I would be

I still love you but it’s not the same as when we first met
I know you love me but I think if we stay, it’s something we’ll regret

Cause I see him in my dreams
He’s always in my head and I can’t get him out
It’s not what it seems baby
I try to block it out but he’s all I think about
This faceless Romeo
Throwing pebbles at my window, writing love songs for me
A faceless Romeo
Someone only in my dreams, come to sweep me of my feet

I know how strange it sounds
That I’m willing to leave for someone that doesn’t exist
But baby we’re poison
Are you willing to die by taking in another sip?

I still love you but it’s not worth the pain, for sure
And this love is not a game I’m willing to play anymore

Cause I see him in my dreams
He’s always in my head and I can’t get him out
It’s not what it seems baby
I try to block it out but he’s all I think about
This faceless Romeo
Throwing pebbles at my window, writing love songs for me
A faceless Romeo
Someone only in my dreams, come to sweep me of my feet

Baby we had our run and sometimes it was fun
But I’ve come to this conclusion
Yeah we put up our fight but darling this ain’t right
It’s no fun living in delusion

Cause I see him in my dreams
He’s doing things for me that you never did
It’s now what it seems baby
He’s shown me this life is not what I want to live

Cause I see him in my dreams
He’s always in my head and I can’t get him out
It’s not what it seems baby
I try to block it out but he’s all I think about
This faceless Romeo
Throwing pebbles at my window, writing love songs for me
A faceless Romeo
Someone only in my dreams, come to sweep me of my feet
This faceless Romeo
Showing me the value of my love and time
A faceless Romeo
Maybe after all that face is mine

I love the whole faceless, nameless love. You know what you need. Maybe faceless romeo is you, and your identity is ready to be established? Beautiful words. Bless you

I missed your writings, Kate! Right away, this read like lyrics (before I read your comment) and reminded me of a Taylor Swift song with a different ending, her choosing herself. Reminiscent of her older songs like Love Story but also making me think of her two more recent albums and the depth in processing emotions. That it's not all a fairytale. And I think that's important. Sometimes we don't have the answers or a reason for walking away from a relationship, but we know when something is not quite right. And it's like trying to fit together two pieces that aren't reciprocating, that are not able to be themselves. I also got the sense here that you were maybe molding yourself into something you weren't, unable to just be who you are or start that discovery. Then the pressure of trying to stay with someone and continue making it work when it shouldn't require that much effort and strife on your part.

I liked the repetition in this, and the idea of the faceless Romeo. That it could very well be someone else, or choosing yourself. Taking time for self-care, or you saving yourself and moving toward the vision and dream YOU want. Without the pull and influence of someone else. Building a future with your voice in the center.

    Such an emotive piece!

      Thank you so much!

You really hit the nail on the head with this comment! I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from Ms. Swift recently, listening to her newer albums as well as the old and I think that is what kind of sparked this.

I’m so happy you liked it!

This is great stuff, Kate, and your informative footnote had me singing along to this poem/song as I read!
Perfect love, be it faceless or otherwise, is never something we should give up looking for. Never settle for being unhappy, and keep listening out for those pebbles on your window.

    All the very best,
    Ben

This idea came to mind, of being with someone you’re unhappy with and having this faceless character in your dreams that shows you how you should be treated.

It came out as a country song and I’m not quite sure why, haha, but I hope you like it!
