Careful What You Wish For

by Walter   Mar 8, 2021

I throw a coin into a well
High in the air and then it fell
I watched it as it makes a splash
Then disappear in a flash

A wish was made secretly
Hoping it would come to be
My reflection only would appear
From the water crystal clear

I saw my image and then I thought
My wish must have turned to naught
I wished for someone I could love
Then saw my image from above

But maybe my wish has come true
Because when I smiled, so did you
No longer would I criticize
With what I saw with my own eyes

I walked away with that smile
And for once not in denial
I learnt a lesson I can't ignore
That love could never be wished for

Because love's a feeling which is felt
Not ever a magic card that's dealt
And if I first don't love myself
Neither then would anyone else

Nicely rhymed and the message, spot on. We truly do need to love ourselves first.
