Labelling

by Walter   May 9, 2023

I bought some delicious apples
All red and with a shine
Each had a label sticker
And organic it would sign

I placed them in a fruit bowel
For all of us to share
So tempted I would grab one
As there's plenty left in there

First thing that I noticed
The apple just looked plain
It seems its label's missing
The one that gives its name

I wondered for a moment
If it's organic too?
Or maybe just a plain one
That somehow would slip through

Although my first instinct
Was to put it back
Because I thought this apple
Somehow might just lack

Pondering for a moment
To me it looked the same
And from that sealed packet
With the organic name

And so I took a bite
That's crunchy and juicy too
So tasteful in my mouth
With every scrumptious chew

But then it made me think
When the label didn't tag
That it made not one difference
To the others in the bag

I wondered then with people
Do we share this similar view?
When labeling each other
With this trait we seem to do
