The guilt

by Mark Hopwood   Aug 16, 2023

The guilt,
For being alive,
I should've done more,
I always should do more,
I should've shouted a warning,
But didn't know anyone was there,
Didn't know what was happening other than that I had to move.
I and see a body on the road,
I tried to stand. To get to her,
But my foot gave out and I fell again,
And again and again.
Then, my lover laying next to me snored,
And I smiled and knew I was so blessed, so lucky.. the sadness left me, and I felt nothing but love.
Then, I thought how they would never feel the love I feel and I was sad, so sad
And my lovers hand touched me in her sleep and I was healed once again.
