The Fall

by Synful   Nov 14, 2023

The wind swirls around me,
Leaves raining down while the cyclone whispers
Of the daydreams that hauntingly
Sit within my beautifully dark mind like prisoners.
The smile that rests on my lips
Is but a shell of happiness long forgotten -
The frigid remnants of a broken heart's eclipse
Shadowing the demise of the fallen.
My steps take me far from who calms
The screams that push through the cracks
And the poorly healed scars
Of my carefully placed mask.

I walk to the cliff that I've been dreaming of
And listen to the kiss of the waves
Upon its sturdy face; the heavens above
Call to me in a glorious display
Of oranges and purples -
Ensnaring my wonder and promise
Of the sweet bliss that hovers
Just before me - a curious solace.

I step away from the ledge,
My mind being torn in two
As I cling to this life from the edge,
Fear and tears coloring my hue.

Each day I stay, each day I stand tall,
But I am in love with the call of the fall.
