Darkened Sky

by Synful   Feb 14, 2026

I used to look up at the sky
Each and every night
If only for but a moment,
Simply because I saw your eyes
Amongst the everglowing stars
Guiding me home when all seemed lost,
Guiding me home when I begged to be forgotten;
I remember when I said the night sky was ours.

I have not raised my head to look
Up into the vast chasm of lavish darkness, however,
Since I wrote you my last letter,
Fearing that I would no longer be able to see you
Within their soft, warming gleam
But how can you disappear from your throne
Alongside them, when your star has outshone
Each of them with ease; I still see you in my dreams.

The moon has run away with you, my Starshine,
But I still remain here, addicted to all that was ours,
Prompting beauty to pour from a heartbroken
Albeit cold and bitter, unforgiving mind;
You were always my most delicately complicated muse,
Feeding me with pain and pleasure, sadness and love -
Aiding my venture into the arts, watching as I become
Something you run from: a mirror of you.

I will forever love you, my Starshine,
Even though I can no longer see in the dark
Without your irreplaceable, beautiful, spark -
Bittersweetly remembering your love that was once mine.
